the haiku year

i was cleaning out my bookshelf the other day and found this old book that i love. i decided to use it in my photograph yesterday, and then when i read shari's post yesterday, it was about haiku. so many coincidences have been happening lately like this to me all over blogland. it is strange to have connections with people you have never met, who are in other parts of the country and world. i love it!

the book is about some friends, musicians and writers, who decide to write haikus
to each other as a way to keep in touch. the book is very small and
simple and has little black and white photos of what people wrote their
haikus on: ticket stubs, postcards, napkins, etc. i am glad to be reacquainted with this book and am glad to share it with all of you.

photos by felix baumsteiger.
found this photographer through wendy. definate feast for the eyes!

also, check out 10 cent's havana set. so gorgeous!! i have always wanted to go there with all the old cars and colorful decor. it seems like going back in time.

little push

i am usually not that into horoscopes, but i got this little calender as a present for christmas, and everyday it gives me that little thing i need to hear. i have been
getting a lot of support lately from an old friend, and i am really
grateful. it does not make the work load any less, but it does make it
easier to persevere when you know someone is behind you.

yesterday irene left me a link to this amazing photographer in a comment. she went to school with her, which i would love to hear more about. irene, are you a photographer as well? it is so funny, because i had already bookmarked this woman and could not wait to pass the link along. i think i first saw her work in elle decoration uk. to navigate her site, just click on a photo, and then the navigation links are to the right of the photos. i love the projects section. here are some of my favorites. the doily photo makes me think of lisa s.

here are some illustration links i found in the new york times magazine.

also, i love this dress. the flow and color are so pretty.

photos and sweets

the above photos are from gourmet magazine. they feel so warm and earthy. i think they some how inspired this photo by me:

i have been finding some amazing photographers these days. there is so much talent and inspiration out there.

like:
jason lowe.

and
caroline allison.

and here is some cupcake love if you happen to be in the atlanta area. the flavors sound devine.

while i'm talking about flavors, check out all of these recipes.

a little snow and inspiration

yay! it finally snowed here. not really..it is only a tiny bit. it is covering the backyard, but out on the street, it is all melted. but, i guess it's a start.

taking a little break last week was nice. i guess i didn't really have a choice..i was so tired, i could barely move by the end of the day. i ended up getting sick at the end of the week, with a cold. my body needed a little break from all the hustle and bustle. so, yesterday i relaxed and caught up on reading magazines and watching old dvds. i diligently took my airborne and cold medicine, and today i am almost back to 100%. feeling a little better, i did end up going to see little children last night. it was really good. the acting was amazing and it is the kind of movie that can create a lot of discussion.

so, one of the things that i discovered during my sunday recovery was that i am totally ADDICTED to magazines, especially foreign ones. i know i am a totally visual person, when i keep buying magazines when i can't even read the articles. i recently bought milk, a french parenting magazine. no, i don't have children, but i was so in love with the imagery and feel of this magazine that i had to buy it. and the great thing is, there is an alternate english version of all the articles in the back. the photography is amazing. there are no equivalents over here in the US, that's for sure.

there was a great article on this cool hotel.
"61 rooms, 21 artist, 1,000 ideas
Each room is an individual piece of art. From whacky comical styles to strict graphic design. From fantastic street art and Japanese Manga to simply spaced out fantasies. You will find flowers, fairytales, friendly monsters, dreaming creatures, secrets vaults and…"

here are some of the amazing interior shots from the magazine.

sunday favorites

this is my tribute to 3191. i love the idea behind this project and the photos always brighten my day.

since i did not get around to posting my flickr favs on friday, so i thought i'd do it now.
i have always loved birds, but i been really drawn to them lately. like this one and this one, and this birdhouse.

all of these photos really touched an emotion and made me think.
1. camilla was here. made me think of friendships and connections.
2. untitled. made me think of winter and comfort and being inside this warm cozy house, sipping tea by a fire.
3. foursome. i love the title on this one. it makes me think of shape, color, and form and how everything fits together so nicely.
4. having hoarded a crapload of film. as gayla said, this makes me giddy with delight. i love the lighting during this time of day. it makes me think of infinite possibilities.
5. wind and spin. these just make me want to spin and dance with reckless abandon.

enjoy and have a happy sunday!

photo love

sannah kvist.
found this swedish photographer through flickr.
i love the series section on her website, especially close to home.

anna wolf.
i discovered the beautiful work of anna wolf a while ago, but she has just put some new work on her site.

comfort.

my new kitty, henry, is becoming more comfortable everyday. he loves lying on plastic bags and basking in the sun. as time goes by, i guess we get more comfortable in new surroundings as they become more of our own. i think this is why change is good, to show that we can survive anywhere and to open our eyes to new possibilities.

the above photos are from susie rea's, granny project. found the link through a reader and new blogger, jodie.

to me, this is symbolizes comfort.

malfunction

i have been having some trouble lately with my scanner and my polaroid camera. i came up with a solution and just took photos of my polaroids with my digital camera. the polaroids are kind of blurry, because they have been getting stuff in the camera, but only sometimes, so i'm not sure what the problem is. anyway, i don't have time or patience to deal with either issue right now.

so, to make myself feel better, i have decided to post some favorite images that make me happy when i look at them. they are old and new, all in the theme of blue.

missing the beach

this weekend was so warm here in new york! in the 70s. very wierd, but kind of nice just coming back from the beach. saturday morning, as i was walking down a cobblestone street in soho, i was transported to another place. i felt a warm breeze and was almost sure i smelled the surf. it is amazing how something so small can make you feel so much. i really do miss being so close to the ocean. being able to take a walk on the beach everyday and smell the salt air sounds amazing. mav is so lucky! maybe one day i will live near a beach, but, for now, it's still the concrete jungle for me.

speaking of mav, she posted some amazing inspiration over the weekend!

today i will be working on a little revamp of my website and getting organized for the new year. i have been really inspired by so many magazines lately, in particular, the january issue of elle decor uk. there is an amazing article about dutch stylist, reineke joustra. here are some photos.

some more photo inspiration:
anna williams photos have always inspired me. take a look.
mikkel vang does a lot of amazing work for australian vogue living.
victoria pearson.
oh, one more:
i just discovered my friend, sarah's new years eve set. so cozy!

friday already

trying to ease back into things. it is difficult after a vacation. i forgot how much walking i do here. i already have blisters..ugh. even though i was only gone for 2 weeks, being on the subway felt wierd. not being in a city, you really don't get that 'close' to people you don't know. i'm sure i will be used to it again soon.

i wanted to share this beautiful christmas present i gave to myself. i have had this small picture of birds above my computer for a while. i don't even remember where i found it...but i printed it from the internet because i loved it so and something drew me to it.

i was so excited when i saw the actual prints for sale at small stump's etsy shop! i had to have one. they are gorgeous in person. i'm not sure where i'm hanging it yet, but this is the temporary home.

i'm getting back into the swing of flickr too..here are some favs as of late.

this is a new year.

so, i guess this is my first post of 2007. wow...last year flew by.
i am just coming back from a 10 day vacation, visiting family and going to the beach. i took some time off from the internet, flickr, blogs, etc. to just relax and enjoy. if was nice, but i am ready to dive into something new. not sure what that is yet, but i'm ready.

i spent a lot of time with my 6 year old nephew. he is growing up so fast and is so smart. he is very good with good byes. he just told me, "relax, i'll see you next season." i love that he knows he will see me each season, as i usually visit him every 3-4 months. we spent new year's eve together at the beach. as the evening approached, he reminded us about "the bread". he was referring to the new year's toast, which he also called the "toast and butter".

during this vacation, i had intended to come up with grand plans and life revelations, but this did not happen. instead, i just was. i took time to be away from my normal routine and reflect on what is important to me and what i want to be important. now i am refreshed, renewed, and ready for the new year.
happy new year everyone! enjoy the simple beauty.
