acorn love

i made some delicious acorn squash from the kitchen diaries yesterday.
it was super easy.

here's the recipe:
set oven to 350 degrees.
cut acorn squash in half and scoop out pulp and seeds. lay squash cut side up on baking sheet {i put it on top of aluminum foil too}.
put a small slice of butter in the center of each squash, together with a little olive oil, a couple of thyme leaves, salt, and plenty of ground pepper.
roast for an hour. check occasionally, you want them to be tender when you pierce it with a knife. if you like them sweet, you can add a little maple syrup and cinnamon. yum!

i have been seeing the work of photographer ditte isager everywhere lately. beautiful food, interior and travel photos. see more here and here.

henri and flora. really cute kid's clothes and beautiful photographs.
i also love these children's clothes {via uniform studio}.

snow and crochet

wow-it snowed again last night. i have been sick over the last few days, so i have spent a lot of time indoors. it is nice to look out the window and see snow covered trees.

i have been reminding myself of my great grandmother, sitting in every night and crocheting. i was inspired to make some coasters. i love them! i don't know if i should dye them or just keep them as is. i thought about doing a coffee or tea dye for fun.

i also spent some time perusing my new cookbook, the kitchen diaries. everything about this book is amazing. the photos, the paper, the layout, the stories, and the recipes. here is a sneak peek.

the down-time has allowed me to find some beauty i would like to share:

-my favorite oscar dress.
-my favorite marimekko fabrics {the second one reminds me of this}.
-i finally got around to reading this interview. very interesting and inspiring.
-i discovered this photographer while reading the ny times style magazine. he takes photos {or scans} of crushed flowers and other objects on top of photographs to create a new photograph. incredible. you can see a slide show of the photos on the ny times site.
-i also finally watched the science of sleep. lovely little movie. loved seeing the work of laura faggioni.

happy monday!

winter whites

since winter is still hanging on, i thought i would post some wintery photos today.

i have been crazy over winter whites lately, i can't get enough. it has spurred me to work on a little project. i am taking photos of white{ish} things and i want to compile them in book form somehow. i also want to include organic elements and textures on some pages. i kind of have it plotted out in my head, but i don't know how it will turn out in physical form.

i have also started to crochet again. i have not worked on anything in over a year, so it feels good to pick up the hook and yarn again. i am working on small little projects, as i am not so great at reading patterns and i get bored easily. i started to make a butterfly, but it ended up being a bookmark, because the wings got a little complicated.

here are some wintery photos to enjoy from alec soth.

bright and sunny

i have a problem. i have to color coordinate my breakfast. it makes me happy. somehow i think it makes things taste better.

lately i have been trying to cut down {a little} on the bready bits for breakfast, and i have come up with a really good concoction. plain yogurt with a little sugar {or splenda} mixed with cottage cheese and topped with sliced almonds. yum! it is very tasty.

so, i am officially tired of the cold weather! i am ready for spring and all the happy colors.
i am loving the spring collection from orla kiely {via crustation}.

and i really want this chair.

i also wanted to mention this great little store just around the corner from me, brooklyn general. they have really beautiful yarns and fabrics. i purchased a few goodies yesterday, including the latest issue of selvedge. there is an amazing photo spread on winter beaches. i will try to scan some photos and post them this week.

i also found this amazing designer, rubecksen yamanaka. wow! incredible stuff. i love the spring/summer 2007 collection and the 2006 spring/summer collection.

have a good monday!

a time to play

yay! it is snowing. i have to get out there soon and take some pictures and trek into the city.

first, i wanted to share some information/inspiration i dug up. mav spurred my interest when she asked about this photo and where it came from.

the image is from italian elle decor {october issue}, which is an amazing magazine. i just took a peek at the current issue at the magazine shop, and it looks chock full of inspiring images. the only problem is that here in the U.S. it costs around $20. i can't justify this every month, along with all the other magazines i just "have to have." but it is worth the splurge every once in a while.

anyway, this photo is from a story on architect, masayo ave. here is some more of her work. you can see the whole spread on the photographer, angela bergling's site. to get to the spread, just go to the squares on the bottom of her site and go to commercial portfolio #3, sorry, i can't link directly to it. enjoy!

off to play in the snow.

anticipation

it has already started snowing---yippee! we are supposed to get a big snow storm tonight, so hopefully we will wake up to fluffy goodness and not a slushy mess.

i added some new prints to my shop-check it out.

also check out caryn drexl's etsy shop.

fresh start

this weekend, it was time for a fresh start. time to clean up the house {apartment} and update the inspiration board.

so, speaking of inspiration, here is a little to get the juices flowing.

i do not think i have posted about lucas allen before, but maybe i have. his work is amazing. very beautiful interior and lifestyle work. you can see more of his work here. just look under photographers and click his name. while you are there, you should also check out the work of petrina tinslay. when i became interested in food photography, she is one of the first photographers i remember being drawn to over and over again while devouring images in books and magazines. you can see more of her work here.

i just found out about this bakery from the splendid table. it is from the owner of city bakery, which i love there peanut butter cookies and pretzel croissants are so delicious! i will definately have to check it out!

i also wanted to mention a book iona told me about, at home with white. it will be available in march. can't wait to see all the lovely white!

happy monday!

it was love at first site when i found the work of karin bubas {found via skona life}.

i really love her ivy house and the leon's palace sets.

and these white images are amazing.

i have really been inspired by images of white objects lately. i even feel inspired to do some sort of white project myself. humm....

here are some of my favorite images from fashion week from vena cava.

i love the socks with flats on the far right model. and the deep shades of grey.

now, on to my flickr favs:

the MOST delicious oatmeal ever

everyone has been posting yummy recipes this week, so i thought i would join in.

lately, i have been making oatmeal for breakfast. each day i have been adding different things to see what makes the best combination. today, i think i have mastered it.

here is my recipe:

bring 3/4 cup of water to a boil.
add 1/4 cup mccann's quick and easy steel cut irish oats
reduce heat and cover and cook 5-7 minutes, stirring regularly. add 1-2 teaspoons of sugar, to your liking and a sprinkle of cinnamon, and butter if you like.
here comes the best part:
remove from heat and add your favorite mix-ins. today i added raw sliced almonds, walnuts, raisins, dried apricots, and dried papaya (tastes so good!). i have also tried dried cranberries, which was also really delicious.

warm it up

so, i'm kind of addicted to taking pictures of this fella. he is too cute!! and such an easy model, kinda like a still life.

it has been so cold here this week, so i wanted to share some warm and sunny images from these talented photographers.

cozy hibernation

stayed in most of the weekend, as it is very cold here! henry is getting cuter and more cuddly each day. i can't stop eating the whole wheat chocolate chip cookies i made yesterday. they're healthy, right?? i think the whole wheat cancels out the cup of butter in them;)

found some great inspiration during my hibernation.
this polaroid reminded me of the beautiful work of hanna werning. check out her website, it's fun to navigate.

i have always loved the drawings of alyson fox, but i did not know she was a photographer as well. her photos are so fun and alive. i love her use of color and her style. check them out here. also read this great interview with her.

ellen von unwerth. look at her beautiful photos of women.

glen luchford. love these photos from a prada campaign a few years ago.

spreading a little more shoe love and chair love.

my tea fortune from the weekend: feel great, act great and approve of yourself.
