little adventurer

sometimes you just have to venture out. henry is definately enjoying these summer days. he loves hanging out on the fire escape {i live on the 4th floor}, but always comes right back in when you call him.

i spent some time today working on a new series i am excited about. i hope to have something ready to show very soon. i can't believe it is already june! so crazy.

a few things i will do this summer:
try to make these.
take more of these.
have coffee and a snack here.
dream of putting my toes in the sand and wishing i was here.
+++++++

on an unrelated note, i was so happy to see an article on laura faggioni in house & garden this month.

good evening, friends.

lilac

did i forget to mention yesterday that i also bought some lilac this weekend. it was so pretty and smelled so good! unfortunately, it did not last too long in this heat. it has been so long since i have used my polaroid camera, i blew through 2 film packs pretty quickly. i used type 779 film this time instead of 600. the man at my beloved photo store said the only difference between the two is the price. 779 is cheaper. has anyone else tried this film? i guess the colors look the same. too bad i was a little shaky on the second photo. my camera sometimes sticks after i press the button, so i am lucky i am getting pictures at all.

can't wait to buy some more film.

a couple of links:

vivova. i love these beautiful, useful products.
atelier vierkant {via labour of heart}.

tomorrow i'll share some of my outdoor pics.
until then...

how does one get rid of their piles?

oh, piles upon piles. i feel like i am always surrounded by piles. as soon as i clean them up, they are back again the next day. had a nice relaxing weekend. but sometimes i feel like the more time i have, the more time i waste. i think i work better when i only have a small amount of time to get something done. it is hard to be self motivating and set deadlines for yourself when there are so many possibilities of what you could be doing.

summary of productive weekend activities:
:went to see this little movie. i found it very enjoyable and the pies looked amazing.

:dusted off my polaroid camera and took some pics in the neighborhood. maybe i'll post some tomorrow, if i can get them scanned tonight.

:worked a little on a small book of photos from my friend's wedding.

:took some photos for my next shop update..not sure when that will be yet. still formulating what i am working on.

:found this cute site.
:drank sangria and ate tacos and red velvet cupcakes on a brooklyn rooftop looking out onto manhattan.

off to create more piles. have a lovely evening.

super natural

so, the week is coming to an end. what a lovely week of weather we have been having here in ny. i think summer has arrived. yay! there is still a breeze in the air, which i am loving.

today i wanted to share a new cookbook i just could not live without the moment i saw it. it is called super natural cooking by heidi swanson. heidi is a food photographer as well as a food writer/creator. she has taken all of the photos in the book, which are beautiful. she includes wonderful shots of the food, as well as people, and nature. she explores and explains natural ingredients and natural sweeteners and provides easy to follow recipes. there is even a section on cooking by color. i love the design of the book too. if i were to create my own cookbook, this is very similar to what it would be. check it out. you will love it too.
now, on to the friday favorites:
normal days.

have a nice holiday weekend...enjoy one of these and a few of these..

happy eating

so, the past few days have been pretty productive. i am out of my slump and raring to go. to where, i do not know. but i'm ready. i also went to the gym 5 days in a row last week, so this weekend i deserved to reward myself by baking banana bread. i added some dark chocolate chunks to the batter. i think i prefer it without. i guess it should either be all chocolate or no chocolate. i am kind of happy this is turning into somewhat of a food blog. i do love food.

some goodies{non-food related} to enjoy:

sacha dunn.

it is true love

me + garlic peeler= love
i am so happy to have discovered this wonderful device. i have been wanting to get one for a while, and the other day i was passing by william sonoma and had to grab one. as someone who uses a lot of garlic, it has truly changed my life.

on to more important matters. i have been doing a lot of thinking lately about art and on being an artist. i think there are many types of artists and each person has to choose their own path and their own way to make art. i am just happy to feel constantly stimulated by the world around me and to always be thinking of new ideas. they may not all come into fruition, but it is fun to think about them. this got me thinking of a post from mav from a while ago. i had to do some searching {which was fun}, but i found it. it is funny, because before i had reread this post, while riding the bus, i had one of these 'art is everywhere' moments. as i got onto the bus, the light was shining on the floor and it was so beautiful. the floor was black, but had little sparkling flecks of silver. at first i thought maybe i was crazy to think the bus floor looked beautiful, but then i felt lucky to have noticed it.

look at these beautiful window displays found via karin.

what art have you noticed lately?

finding time

the photos above are from the amazing photographer, elizabeth young. her fashion and portrait work is so inspiring.
i have been trying to get inspired lately to try some new things. combining old and new to see what comes up. i have actually been trying to find the time. i have a real problem with trying to do too many things at once and not really completing any of them. at this point, i feel like i have stopped making lists because i don't want to be reminded of what i have not finished.
i really want to produce more art for art's sake. it is so hard when i am also trying to make a living. it is a tough balance. any advice or things that work for you?
take a look at the beautiful work of jim brown {found via terramia-a new favorite read}.
until tomorrow..

granola time

lately, i am loving granola. it is sooo good. i have been wanting to try the recipe in blueprint this month, but have not gotten around to it yet. instead, i have been buying bear naked. today i tried low sugar vanilla almond crunch. i highly recommend it.

for today, some photo links to enjoy with a cup of tea:

con poulos. one of my favorite food photographers. if you have ever looked through a donna hay magazine, then you have probably seen his work. it is very clean and simple.
my red self. raw and real photos. and tons of them.
susie cushner. still life and life style photographer.
enjoy!

monday love

here are some more beautiful images from selvedge. i am loving yellow and green lately so much. these photos are of fabrics from Bahia. the clothes have been fashioned from household linens.

i had a really great sunday. i am so lucky to have received so many wonderful gifts from friends lately. a friend i have not seen in forever gave me a great dress. she said she thought it was so me, and she was right. i tried to photograph the details of it, it is a little hard to see.
i also received an amazing package from a reader, stephanie {seattlegirl}, of so many great things-a book on vintage clothing, super cute japanese clothespins, candy, inspiration sheets, and a little notebook. thanks, stephanie!

here are some places that have been inspiring me lately:

love pad. this site is a collaboration between 4 australian artists. i especially love the illustrations from ev.

pretty pattern

i wanted to share these beautiful images from selvedge. i love the greens in the bottom photo. they are from an article by sisters rinne and lucy allen. rinne also took the photos. it is an article about hable construction. i happened to stop in their west village shop this weekend. it is so quaint and nice. rinne has some light drawings up there too, if you're in the area, you should stop in.
here are some other things to look at:

i need to go recuperate now. i partied a bit too much at a friend's birthday last night.
oh, one question:
does anyone have any suggestions for a one year birthday present?? any cute etsy shop t-shirts or something?

random inspirations

top photo from nord, bottom photo from me

i just received this great magazine in the mail from the lovely astrid. it is a new norwedian food magazine called nord. it is beautifully designed and styled. it kind of reminds me of gourmet here in the u.s., but it is more focused on where food comes from and the feelings it provokes. this photo is from an inspiration page made by these stylists.

there are some new photos on martyn thompson's site. look under still life and interiors.

take a look at this post from favorite colors on heath ceramics. they are so beautiful.

and now i'm off to finish listening to this.

p.s. i forgot to mention this. {look down on the bottom right}. yay! thanks, holly!

more wedding

i spent a large portion of yesterday editing the photos i took from my friend's wedding. i really enjoy taking the photos, it's the editing and uploading that i don't love so much. i have contemplated doing more weddings, for people i don't know, but i'm just not sure yet.
here a few links to browse for today:

check this site out for some great green gift ideas for mother's day.

i recently discovered photographer, anna wolf's blog {via curious bird}.

isak. i love the layout of their site.
and have you seen, the satorialist is in stockholm!! the perfect place for fashion inspiration. wish i was there too.

thanks plus some

i just wanted to say thank you so much for all the support over the last few days. i am just trying to catch up on orders and get back into the swing of things. also, thanks for supporting my shop. i have been getting a lot of orders lately and it really makes me happy to share my work.

inspired by a couple of special requests, i have added 2 new cards to the shop:

the let them eat cake card and the hydrangea card.

i did a shoot a while ago of the home and studio of a fantastic brooklyn jewelry designer, alison woodward, of reverie nyc. some of the photos are featured today on design*sponge. take a look.
here are a few of my favorites too. i'll post a photo of one of her necklaces tomorrow, the lighting is really bad right now. i love my compact florescent bulb, but it does not make the best pictures{as seen above}.

remembering

i just arrived back home in brooklyn. it is nice to be back. took a little walk and noticed all the amazing blooms-dogwoods in white and pink, cherry blossoms, lilac bushes, tulips, and so many more.

i am trying to remember the good times with my grandmother. she was not your typical grandmother, she was a real spit fire and one hell of a flirt. when she was younger she wore her hair in a big blond bouffant and always wore heels. i remember driving to her house in chicago as a child. the one thing i remember most is her big cushy pink toilet seat. and how she would always make cabbage borscht. no matter what, we had to have that borscht. she made it really sweet and it was delicious. i don't think she really knew how to cook much else, so we always looked forward to it. she is probably somewhere making a batch now, or flirting with some young fellas.
i am also slowly going through the photos i took for my friend's wedding. it was really beautiful. i will be adding a few more to flickr soon, so check them out.
